China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), locates in East Asia and the west coast of Pacific Ocean. China covers approximately 9.6 million square kilometers land area, with a population of about 1.3 billion. The coastline along China’s east and south mainland is approximately 18 kilometers long, and the water area of China’s continental sea and boarder sea is approximately 4.7 million square kilometers, where there are 7,600 islands with different size, among which Taiwan island is the biggest one, which has an area of 35,798 square kilometers. China boarders 14 nations directly, and shares maritime boundaries with 8 countries. China’s provincial administrative region is divided by 4 municipalities, 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, and 2 special administrative regions. Beijing is the capital of China.

China is one of the four ancient civilizations in the world, with a long history of over 5,000 years. First settlement organizations were formed in areas around the central plains, and then countries and dynasties formed, evolved and alternated for many generations and dynasties, among which the longer periods include the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Han, Jin, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing Dynasties, etc. By means of unceasingly communicating and campaigning between dynasties in the central plains and the nomadic people of the north, many nations mixed together into one Chinese nation. The People’s Republic of China was founded in Oct 1st, 1949.

China has a culture of great splendor, with traditional forms of art composed by poems, traditional operas, calligraphy and traditional Chinese paintings, etc. The Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Tomb-sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Double Ninth Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival are important traditional Chinese festivals.
