Officials from U.S. Department of States and U.S. Embassy in Beijing Visited CCCWA

  On January 20, 2015, Ms. Michelle Bernier-Toth, Execute Director of Overseas Citizen Service Office of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, U.S. Department of States, Mr. Chuck Bennett, Minister-Counselor of U.S. Embassy in Beijing and Mr. Tony Greubel, Chief of Citizen Services office, U.S Embassy and Ms. Linda Daetwyler, Chief of Adoption Affairs Section, U.S Consulate in Guangzhou visited CCCWA. Mr. Li Bo, Director-General of CCCWA, Ms. Chu Xiaoying, Deputy Director-General of CCCWA and relevant officials from International Cooperation Department received the American officials.

  Since this is Ms.Toth’s first trip to China, Mr. Li Bo gave a brief introduction of CCCWA’s functions and main tasks, current status and trend of inter-country adoption in China and also the important measures to protect children’s interests launched by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and CCCWA. He stated that CCCWA kept close communication with U.S. Departments of States, U.S. Embassy in Beijing and Consulate in Guangzhou. CCCWA will discuss some major issues of common concern with U.S. Embassy and Consulate in the near future. He also expressed a willing to join hand with the US side to share experience in the field of child welfare and protect the interests for more children in difficult circumstances.

  Ms. Toth indicated that Sino-US cooperation in inter-country adoption is the most satisfying inter-government cooperation. The communication between the two central authorities has been smooth and effective. The U.S. side pays high attention to developing cooperative relationship in inter-country adoption with China and other countries. Ms. Toth also mentioned related issues regarding the “Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction”, expressed her expectation of China to join in the convention as soon as possible and make efforts on preventing international children abduction. Mr. Li Bo indicated that CCCWA will fully cooperate with related departments to research on this topic.
